Accelerator Support

The Applied Physics and Superconducting Technology Directorate and Magnet Systems Department is responsible to support the continuous operation of Fermilab’s Accelerator Complex. Simply put, we continually provide conventional magnets for existing accelerators, while simultaneously designing and manufacturing new magnets to meet the needs of future Fermilab projects.  In addition, the accelerators require technical support (repair and refurbishment of existing magnets) during emergency or scheduled maintenance.  Lastly, quality control is essential.  This program includes field quality measurements which ensure magnets utilized meet accelerator requirements. More information can be found on the internal Accelerator Support web-page.

  • At the Magnet Systems Department we designed and fabricated the Booster Multi-pole magnet Assembly (BMA) for correction of the Fermilab Booster beam orbits. Shown here is one of the 64 assemblies. All coils are fixed in place with epoxy and the power leads are connected.
