Conventional Magnets R&D

Technical Division has the capability to design, manufacture and measure any type of conventional accelerator magnet. This requires diverse expertise as designs span from extraction or injection kickers and Lambertsons, to strong bending dipoles and focusing quadrupoles, or relatively small, multi-element corrector magnets. Additionally, we design and fabricate fast-ramping AC magnets, as well as gradient-field magnets for specific accelerator applications.

  • At the Magnet Systems Department we designed and fabricated the Booster Multi-pole magnet Assembly (BMA) for correction of the Fermilab Booster beam orbits. Shown here is one of the 64 assemblies. All coils are fixed in place with epoxy and the power leads are connected.
